Feng Shui: Let Positive Energy Flow Through Your Home

Feng Shui: Let Positive Energy Flow Through Your Home

The Chinese have been practicing Feng Shui for 5,000 years in the spaces they inhabit. This ancient practice—almost an art form—is based on the idea that a fluid and harmonious flow of the energy that surrounds us—especially in our homes—enhances our well-being in many areas of our lives. And all of this has a positive impact on our bodies, our thoughts, our emotions—in short, our lives in general.

When you think about it, our home should never be a source of stress, constraints, or extra work. On the contrary, it should help us recharge, lift our spirits, and put us at ease. This is especially true now that we’re spending so much time at home… often. And yet, there are many things we do unconsciously that don’t help foster a positive atmosphere. Here are 6 tips to free up the Chi and let a flow of energy circulate throughout your home.

1. Tidy up your surroundings to promote the flow of energy between spaces. When things are cluttered, our energy gets tied up in too many trivial objects, and we lose sight of what really matters. In other words, clean up ;)

2. Throw away the unnecessary items that have accumulated over the years and donate what can be put to good use: books, magazines, furniture, clothes, and items for recycling. You’ll free up space and feel a great sense of satisfaction. Get into the habit of organizing and tidying up.

3. Get rid of anything that doesn’t work smoothly: throw away broken items, replace faucets that don’t shut off properly and toilet flushes that are too loud, and fix anything that makes your daily life a hassle.

4. Clean thoroughly to refresh the energy field: dusting, cleaning windows, vacuuming, washing...

5. Air out your home every day to freshen the air and bring in new energy. If possible, put cushions, rugs, throws, and mattresses—the items you come into contact with most—out in the sun.

6. Take good care of your plants, which bring healthy, warm energy and can brighten up the atmosphere in your space. Don’t keep wilted or dried flowers, as they are a source of indoor pollution.

Creating the right conditions for energy to flow freely isn’t actually that complicated. You mainly need to declutter, organize, and keep your apartment clean, cheerful, and free of bad “Chi.” Then use a few additional techniques to complete the energy cleansing. To do this, use natural incense—preferably while you’re out of the room—as well as stones like amethyst, white sage, essential oils*, Tibetan singing bowls, and more…“ “Space, light, order—these are what people need to live, just as much as food or a bed.”Le Corbusier* Essential oils have many contraindications; be sure to check the instructions for use and safety precautions for the brand you choose.
