The 80x190 is the standard size for single beds. For a teenager who is nearly finished growing, it offers 10 cm more width than the 70x190—enough to last through the final years before adulthood without needing to replace the bed frame. For an adult, it’s the ideal size for a studio apartment, a guest room, or a small space where a 90x190 would be too bulky. In both cases, the WOOD bed meets the same standard: a solid okoumé frame, free of chemical adhesives and plastic fasteners, handcrafted in Italy. In a studio or a compact bedroom, switching from a 90 to an 80 frees up space for a desk, a dresser, or simply to move around. On the WOOD bed, the slats are made of rigid solid okoumé; they keep the mattress flat and do not sag even after several years of use. Melamine-coated wood and industrial adhesives can release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) for several months after purchase. In a closed room, these emissions accumulate in the air—a fact that is rarely mentioned at the time of purchase. The WOOD bed is made of solid okoumé wood, assembled without chemical adhesives, plastic screws, or engineered wood. It is finished with vegetable wax applied by hand—a process that uses no synthetic solvents. What the bed does not contain is just as important as what it does contain. This principle has guided every material choice at Kipli since 2018.

The WOOD bed is made near Turin, Italy, by Luca, a craftsman whose workshop has been working with solid wood since 1952. Each piece is assembled by hand using traditional joinery techniques, without screws or metal parts. The wood used is okoumé, a soft and malleable exotic wood from Central Africa, sourced from sustainably managed forests to preserve biodiversity. The vegetable oil finish is applied by hand, piece by piece. This isn’t an assembly line—it’s a workshop where every piece of furniture is known by name.

One of the great things about oiled solid wood is that it requires very little maintenance. A slightly damp cloth is all you need for routine cleaning—no detergents or chemicals that would damage the natural finish. Once or twice a year, applying vegetable oil or natural wax nourishes the wood and preserves its appearance. If a light scratch appears, applying a small amount of oil to the area is usually enough to minimize the mark. Solid okoumé does not deteriorate over time; it develops a patina. With minimal care, the WOOD bed is designed to last well beyond its first few years.
