It offers the width of a queen-size bed without the floor space required by the 200 size. If your bedroom allows it and your body type justifies it, the 160x200 remains the most versatile size. But the 160x190 isn’t a compromise—it’s a deliberate choice for spaces with limited room where width takes precedence over length.

On a 160x190 bed, the difference between an upholstered bed base and a solid wood one is primarily visual and tactile. The OTTO bed base is entirely covered in natural linen woven in France by Lemaitre Demeestere since 1835; its PEFC-certified poplar frame is hidden beneath the fabric, and the bed stands on its own without a visible frame. The AVA and LUCA beds, on the other hand, showcase raw solid beech or okoumé wood in all its natural texture. Both approaches share the same standards: zero VOCs, zero chemical adhesives, and zero melamine-coated wood. Two wood types are available for the 160x190 Kipli bed frames, each with a distinct manufacturing process.The solid okoumé used in the LUCA bed is a soft, malleable exotic wood from Central Africa, assembled without screws or plastic parts by Luca, a craftsman in Turin since 1952. Its hand-applied vegetable wax finish gives it a warm, vibrant appearance. The PEFC- and Bois de France-certified solid beech used in the AVA bed is crafted in northern France by Mathieu; this French wood is denser than okoumé and offers a choice between rigid or flexible slats depending on your firmness preference—a feature not available with the LUCA. Okoumé embodies an Italian artisanal spirit, while beech reflects a deep connection to the French timber industry.

The choice of slats directly affects the perceived firmness of the mattress by as much as 30 to 40%. On a 160x190 bed, the AVA bed’s rigid solid beech slats keep the mattress flat, distribute pressure evenly across the 16 slats spaced 6 cm apart, and promote breathability. For the LUCA bed made of okoumé: a damp cloth is sufficient for daily cleaning, using Marseille soap or black soap if necessary—never use chemical products that could damage the vegetable-based wax finish. For the AVA bed made of PEFC-certified beech: use only mild products—Marseille soap or black soap applied with a clean cloth—and avoid harsh detergents that could damage the natural, water-based, VOC-free varnish. For the OTTO upholstered bed base: use a slightly damp cloth for everyday stains, or a mixture of white vinegar and baking soda dabbed onto the linen for more stubborn stains. In all cases, avoid harsh products. These natural materials don’t require much maintenance—that’s precisely what makes them last.
