The KIPLI mattress is made from 100% natural latex. To fully understand the benefits of this type of material, it is important to distinguish between two main categories of raw materials: natural raw materials and synthetic materials.
Why use latex to make a mattress?
Most mattresses are made from synthetic materials— that is, materials derived from petrochemicals—and contain the same components as plastic. Synthetic materials are preferred because of their relatively low cost. Unlike natural materials, they are not breathable and can release harmful particles.
KIPLI is committed to respecting the body and nature. As such, we aim to offer a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative for everyone’s well-being and comfort, at a fair price all year round. Our products feature natural latex, an exceptional material, particularly in Asian countries. KIPLI sources its raw material from Sri Lanka: natural latex imported in liquid form. It is derived from the sap of the Hevea brasiliensis, an exotic tree found in tropical regions. This allows KIPLI products to be made from a 100% natural material. The core of the mattress is manufactured in Italy, where the liquid latex is solidified through vulcanization to take the shape of the mattress. Then the cover with Its organic cotton and Tencel cover is wrapped around the mattress. Finally, the mattress is compressed and wrapped in a reusable jute bag.Wood: 100% Responsible Harvesting
At Kipli, we prioritize plant-based materials in the manufacturing of our products. For our mattress, the sap of the rubber tree—liquid latex—is harvested without causing deforestation. In fact, a simple incision in the bark of a mature tree is all that’s needed.
In the same vein, We make Kipli furniture from solid wood. Our very first bed frame is made of okoumé wood, a tropical wood with reddish-brown hues. Manufacturing the piece as a single solid piece helps avoid having to make multiple cuts. The KIPLI Bed Base is made without any glue, which helps prevent any chemical emissions that could be hazardous to health. The more recently designed Kipli box springs are made of solid French wood.OROS, just like KIPLI, is committed to using environmentally friendly materials. They inspire us not only through their commitment but also through the forward-thinking vision they champion. Their passion for wood and their curation project focused on wood bring us together. Just as we do through our products, they highlight the value of this material and the associated craftsmanship through numerous projects that showcase it. Finally, they, too, create unique and original pieces, reflecting their commitment to artisanal production in Europe.
Of course,
The Kipli Team
