Natural and Sustainable Solid Wood Bed Base – Kipli

The bed base is the unseen foundation of comfort. It accounts for up to 30% of a bed’s overall support. Even a high-end mattress cannot reach its full potential if it rests on an unstable, poorly ventilated, or synthetic base.

At Kipli, we view the bed base as a natural extension of the mattress. Exposed, uncovered slats, PEFC-certified solid wood, and no melamine-faced panels: every detail is designed to promote breathability and durability.

A model like the NOVA bed with a solid beech slatted base illustrates this approach: a French wood frame, traditional joinery, and a VOC-free finish. It’s not just about supporting the mattress, but about creating a healthy and stable environment for sleep.

A good box spring extends the life of your mattress and improves the quality of your sleep, night after night.

The choice depends on your priorities: breathability, style, storage, or adjustable comfort.

• Bed base with exposed slats: maximum ventilation, ideal for use with a natural latex mattress. Example: the LUCA solid wood bed, assembled without screws or chemical adhesives.
• Upholstered bed base: a more enveloping feel and an attractive textile finish. The OTTO upholstered bed frame combines French linen and PEFC-certified wood.
• Storage bed: a space-saving solution with a sturdy mechanism. The OTTO wooden and linen storage bed features natural linen rather than polyester.
• Electric bed base: adjustable comfort, ideal for specific needs. The OTTO electric bed base offers 5 sleeping positions and is made entirely without melamine-coated wood.

At Kipli, every product is developed according to a common philosophy: solid wood, no unnecessary chemical treatments, and manufacturing in Europe or France.

Yes. Solid wood offers much greater structural strength than particleboard or melamine-faced panels.

A PEFC-certified solid beech or oak can last for several decades. The LIVIA solid oak platform bed, for example, is made from French wood certified by Bois de France, with rigid, uncovered slats to ensure proper ventilation.

Unlike industrial frames assembled with staples or synthetic glue, our bed bases are built using traditional, detachable, and sturdy construction methods.

A durable bed frame isn't just an eco-friendly choice—it's a long-term investment.

Most models are designed without chemical adhesives or melamine-faced wood.

Our solid wood lines, such as the AVA bed in solid beech or the NOVA bed in solid oak use natural, VOC-free finishes.

Upholstery and storage models prioritize natural fabrics (linen, cotton, recycled wool) over polyester.

The goal is simple: to limit emissions of volatile organic compounds in the bedroom, a space where we spend nearly a third of our lives.

A natural latex mattress needs to breathe. It is naturally ventilated, but its performance also depends on the support.

Exposed, uncovered slats are ideal. They allow air to circulate and prevent moisture buildup.

The LUCA solid wood bed or the AVA bed are perfect choices.

If you're looking for a more enveloping feel, the Le Lac premium upholstered bed frame is still a great option thanks to its solid wood frame and breathable passive slats.

The difference lies in consistency.

Many bed frames on the market combine composite wood, particleboard, adhesives, and synthetic textiles. They are designed to minimize costs, not to maximize durability or indoor air quality.

At Kipli:

• PEFC-certified solid wood
• Made in France or Europe
• no melamine-faced wood
• no synthetic foam
• VOC-free varnish
• traditional assembly

The HAMAC solid oak bed or the Clairière bed are designed to be durable, almost heirloom-quality pieces.

A Kipli bed base isn't a disposable product. It's a bed base designed to last.
