Our Tips for Choosing the Perfect Duvet Cover

Our Tips for Choosing the Perfect Duvet Cover

Do you know how to choose your duvet cover? After all, to get a good night’s sleep, nothing should be left to chance—not even your bedding. It’s not enough to simply pick out pieces with patterns you particularly like if you want to get a restful night’s sleep. Only comfortable fabrics, the right colors, and the proper size will help you drift off to sleep in no time and wake up feeling refreshed. So prioritize quality to ensure you have bedding that’s durable and long-lasting.

For a restful night’s sleep, nothing beats a good mattress and quality bedding. Sheets, pillows, and pillowcases are also key to a good night’s sleep. Speaking of which, do you know how to choose the right duvet covers? If you thought all you had to do was pick the set with the most attractive patterns, think again! Choosing the ideal duvet cover also involves selecting the right size and the most comfortable material. A poor-quality set will wear out quickly and certainly won’t provide you with all the comfort you need. We’re sharing our best tips to help guide you in your decision.

Choosing the Right Size for Your Duvet Cover

The first step in choosing a duvet cover is to select the right size. Currently, there are three standard sizes available on the French market: 200 x 200 cm, 240 x 220 cm, and 246 x 240 cm.

To choose the perfect duvet cover, you need to consider the size of your bed—to ensure it drapes nicely —as well as your sleeping habits (whether or not you toss and turn a lot). In any case, the duvet cover will always be the same size as your duvet. So start by measuring it.

What size should you choose for a 140 x 190 cm bed?

If you have a single or double bed measuring 140 x 190 cm, the best choice is a 240 x 220 cm duvet cover. With this size, you’ll have a nice 50 cm overhang on each side of the bed. This is the most commonly available size. However, if you sleep alone, the 200 x 200 size may also work. In this case, the duvet cover will drape 30 cm on each side of the bed.

What size should you choose for a 160 x 200 cm bed?

If you have a queen-size mattress, you have two options:

  • Choose the 260 x 240 cm size, which extends 40 cm beyond each side of the bed;
  • Choose the 240 x 220 size with a shorter overhang of 30 cm on each side of the bed.

Both sizes will work perfectly. The decision is a personal one and depends on your aesthetic preferences. It’s also a matter of comfort, since the larger the comforter, the more you’ll be able to share it with the person sleeping next to you.

What size should you choose for a 180 x 200 cm bed?

When it comes to king-size beds, the question of duvet cover size doesn’t take long to resolve. In fact, your only option is to choose the largest size available—the 260 x 240 cm duvet cover. This will give you a nice 40 cm overhang on each side of the bed.

Finding the Best Fabric for a Duvet Cover

Another important factor to consider is the material of your duvet cover. It’s best to choose durable, natural materials like cotton or linen rather than synthetic materials such as polyester. Synthetic materials are not only less comfortable but also less durable over time.

Natural materials like cotton, for example, offer the advantage of breathable, easy-to-care-for, durable home textiles that are suitable for all seasons— summer and winter alike. However, be careful, because not all cotton is created equal. Opt for Egyptian cotton or organic cotton, which ensure that your sheets are not only sturdy but also long-lasting.

In fact, organic percale is much healthier and more sustainable. You can be sure you’ll sleep in sheets that are comfortable and incredibly soft. Fresh, soft to the touch, and lightweight—with these sheets, you’ll finally enjoy a good night’s sleep!

Choosing the Right Shape for Your Duvet Cover

There are different styles of duvet covers. The most common is the bottle shape, also known as the “chimney” style. This style features a flap at one end, which allows you to tuck the duvet in at the foot of the bed. It is often the recommended style for children who tend to move around in their sleep, as it keeps the duvet securely in place.

You’ll also find duvet covers with buttons, snaps, or zippers. These styles are less easy to tuck in, but are still very practical when you want to remove them for washing, for example. Plus, they have the advantage of keeping the down securely in place. Keep in mind that there’s no single “best” choice when it comes to duvet cover styles. It all depends primarily on your preferences regarding comfort and aesthetics.

Choose the color of your duvet cover that will perfectly complement your interior decor

The color of the duvet cover is also an important factor to consider. The bed is a key element of the bedroom. By its very nature, the duvet cover—with its color and pattern—plays a major role in your decor.

Choose it based on your personal preferences, whether you prefer solid colors or patterns. In any case, keep in mind that blue is known to promote restful sleep. Light, muted colors (white, gray, beige, purple, etc.) are also very soothing. On the other hand, it’s best to avoid overly bright colors like red, orange, or yellow, which tend to raise blood pressure and heart rate.

Be sure to choose a color that will blend in with the room’s decor. If there are already a lot of decorative elements in the room, opt for a solid-colored, understated duvet cover instead. This will help you avoid visually overwhelming the room. If your decor is already minimalist, go ahead and treat yourself—in that case, opt for patterned duvet covers: geometric, floral, plaid, or even polka-dot.

As you can see, there are various factors to consider when choosing a duvet cover. It’s not enough to simply go for the most attractive colors in the set; you also need to think about other elements that will help you get a restful night’s sleep and ensure you have high-quality bedding. At Kipli, we’ve focused on healthy, comfortable materials to provide you with all the comfort you need. Finally, to extend the life of your bedding set, be sure to wash it regularly and air-dry it as much as possible. That way, it’ll be ready for you to slip into soft, fresh, comfortable, and lightweight sheets when it’s time for bed!
