Our Responsibility: Protecting Our Planet

Kipli's mission is to make both our sleeping environment and our environment more sustainable through natural bedding. Many people may not immediately realize how buying a mattress relates to climate change. That's why, in this blog post, we explain how Kipli is committed to environmental protection through natural bedding and furniture—and how we're also partnering with companies that share our values.

At Kipli, we believe that every individual and every company has a social and environmental responsibility. Climate change continues to advance unchecked. Only if absolutely everyone does their part to protect our planet can we prevent even worse outcomes.

Did you know that 90% of all mattresses on the market are made of synthetic materials? They are made from plastics derived from petroleum. At the end of their life cycle, synthetic mattresses are either incinerated or end up in massive landfills. A mattress is thrown away every 4 seconds. In Germany alone, old mattresses generate approximately 100,000 metric tons of waste per year.

Kipli wants to change that. With the Kipli mattress made from 100% natural latex, the company offers a natural alternative to synthetic bedding. Natural latex is a renewable resource. It is extracted from the sap of the tropical tree Hevea brasiliensis. When the bark is tapped, the tree secretes white latex milk. The tree is not damaged in the process, and no finite resources are wasted.

At the end of its long lifespan, the core of the Kipli mattress is biodegradable. Natural latex takes 6 months to decompose. Synthetic mattresses, on the other hand, are classified as hazardous waste and cannot be recycled. When incinerated, these mattresses release CO2 and harm our environment.

To protect our planet, Kipli is therefore developing natural and sustainable alternatives to synthetic bedding. The company is also committed to environmental protection through partnerships with various organizations and other brands.

Actions Speak Louder Than Words

Kipli is a partner of 1% for the Planet. This means that we donate one percent of your purchase to organizations dedicated to environmental protection. Specifically, Kipli works with Boomforest and Sea Shepherd.

  • Boomforest: The Boomforest organization is dedicated to reforestation in metropolitan areas. Boomforest plants trees at roundabouts, greens the roofs of bus stops, and more. In this way, the organization promotes biodiversity in metropolitan areas, helps save bees, and makes gray cities greener. It’s a great initiative that we’d love to support.

  • Sea Shepherd: Sea Shepherd is the world's best-known NGO dedicated to marine research. It fights to protect the oceans and draws attention to marine pollution and other environmentally harmful practices. The organization's goal is to raise public awareness of the vital importance of the oceans to our ecosystem. We are proud to support Sea Shepherd in this important mission.

The Importance of the Oceans to Our Ecosystem

Our ecosystem is a fragile system based on an optimal balance of many factors. That is why it is so important that all components of our ecosystem are healthy and that the interactions between them do not become unbalanced.

Along with rainforests and glaciers, the world’s oceans are an essential part of our ecosystem. Warm and cold ocean currents shape the climate of entire continents, and the oceans provide a habitat for thousands of animal and plant species. That’s reason enough to devote all our energy to protecting our oceans!

TheOceanmata Startup

Another company dedicated to protecting the world's oceans is Oceanmata. Oceanmata was founded by Dominik, who launched the project after a vacation in Sri Lanka. Dominik witnessed firsthand the trash problem prevalent in many countries and saw how it is destroying our environment.
He then founded Oceanmata and designs plastic-free and biodegradable cell phone accessories, such as Cell Phone Cases, protective films and cases for AirPods. For every product sold, at least 1 kg of plastic waste is collected. This is how Oceanmata aims to rid the oceans of trash.
But that's not all: In addition to the oceans themselves, the company also wants to protect their inhabitants. Through various projects, Oceanmata rescues dolphins and works to prevent the extinction of sea turtles, for example.

We're all in the same boat

At Kipli, we do our best to do our part to protect our planet. However, we realize that this battle cannot be won alone. That’s why we partner with organizations and companies that share our values and are committed to the same goals. Only when everyone pulls together can we truly make a difference. That’s why we can’t thank our Kipli customers enough for supporting our mission every day—because this is about something much bigger. A sustainable mattress is just the beginning…
