Amina and José met more than 8 years ago in New Zealand and are now the founders of Maisons Vaudésir, a bed-and-breakfast located in Chablis in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region.

What is your background?
José is a computer engineer; his job allows us to live in several countries around the world.
As for me, Amina, after more than 10 years working in the hospitality industry on luxury houseboats in France, I had long wanted to create a high-end bed-and-breakfast.
Can you tell us the story of Maisons Vaudésir?In December 2022, driven by our passion for travel, we decided to create a unique place in Chablis. We bought an abandoned 1950s house by the river and, with the invaluable help of Amina’s brothers, transformed it into Maisons Vaudésir.
Maisons Vaudésir was born out of our desire to share our love for this exceptional wine-growing region. The name refers to the prestigious “Vaudésir” Grand Cru, located just a short walk from our home. We envisioned this place as a warm and welcoming space, where every detail invites you to relax, explore, and create unforgettable memories.
Can you describe the project and its values?
We designed our home with sustainability in mind. It was essential for us to prioritize, as much as possible, brands that offer sustainable products made from natural materials (untreated products, non-toxic paints, etc.)—products that are manufactured in France or Europe whenever possible and that also highlight traditional craftsmanship.
All of our bedding is made in France, and most of our furniture is either made in France or consists of vintage pieces.
What makes it special?
Maisons Vaudésir stands out for its outdoor Nordic bath—the only one in Chablis—which is perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring and ideal for recharging, even in the rain.
The History of the Site
The house existed long before it was converted into a charming bed-and-breakfast. Located in a historic neighborhood of Chablis, it has been completely renovated to combine old-world charm with modern amenities, while retaining its original character.
What are your upcoming projects?
The opening of our second vacation rental in 2026—that’s why “maison” is spelled with an “s” at the end.
