Analog Life - 2: Living Better with Fewer Screens: Taking It a Step Further

📍 Part 2 of our series on the Analog Life.

Now that we’ve explored some simple, easy adjustments in the first article, it’s time to take things a step further. Perhaps you’ve already noticed the benefits of partially disconnecting, or maybe you feel the urge to embed these changes more deeply into your daily life.

This second level is intended for those who wish to structure their digital detox by adopting more established habits—habits that go beyond simple adjustments and reflect a genuine intention to transform their relationship with technology.

📌 What's on the agenda: Just like in Part 1, we'll explore the key moments of the day (morning, noon, evening), but this time we'll suggest more hands-on activities that will help you strengthen your analog lifestyle.

đź’ˇ If you missed Part 1, start here:

➡️ Part 1 - Start Unplugging with Simple Steps

{COMING SOON} And if you're looking for an even deeper immersion, the third and final part will help you disconnect even further from the digital world.

Morning – Start the day differently

Take it a step further:Replace the radio or morning podcasts with silence → Let your mind wake up gently instead of overwhelming it with information first thing in the morning. → Silence helps you manage stress better and improves your concentration.

Mindful eating → Avoid looking at a screen while eating breakfast; focus on the textures and flavors of your food. → This improves digestion and reduces morning cravings. (Source: Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health)

Take a few minutes to walk outside before starting your day → Even a short walk (5 to 10 minutes) exposes you to natural light and boosts your energy. → Morning walks increase serotonin production and regulate sleep.

Noon – Take a real break, away from digital devices

Take it a step further:Try a quick hands-on activity → Drawing, doodling, writing down a thought for the day, knitting… A simple, hands-on activity to keep your hands and mind occupied . → Creative hands-on activities reduce stress and boost concentration.

Change your surroundings → If possible, eat lunch somewhere other than your workplace or your usual spot to better mark the break.

Take a micro-nap without your phone → 10–15 minutes of complete rest, with your eyes closed or simply tuning in to your body. → Micro-naps improve alertness and memory.

Evening – Unplug to Reconnect

Take it a step further:Spend part of the evening without artificial light → Turn off the overhead lights and light some candles or a dim lamp to reconnect with the natural rhythm of light. → Soft lighting in the evening promotes melatonin production and helps you prepare for sleep.

Redesign your space to promote relaxation → Set out a throw blanket, a comfortable armchair, a few books, and a notebook to encourage you to slow down and take a break from screens.

Engage in gentle physical activity before bed → Stretching, yoga, breathing exercises… Avoid overly intense workouts, which overstimulate the body before bedtime. → Light exercise in the evening improves sleep quality and reduces anxiety.

Days Off – Taking Time Away from Screens

Here, we aim to establish lasting analog habits by structuring the day differently.

Take it a step further:Try an “algorithm-free day” → No automatic playlists, no recommendations, no pre-curated content. → Choose your own book, music, and movie—without letting an algorithm decide for you.

Bringing the art of letter-writing back into fashion → Write a postcard, a letter, or a journal entry instead of sending an instant message. → Handwriting develops neural connections that enhance memory and critical thinking.

Create an analog weekend ritual → A time completely free of screens, when you cook, read, listen to music, do crafts, or practice mindfulness meditation.

You've done the hard part—what are you going to do now?

You’ve moved beyond making small adjustments and have begun to structure your digital detox. You may have experienced a new sense of freedom, a keener attention to the details of daily life, or simply greater enjoyment in slowing down.

But if you’re here, it’s because you want to take it even further. The third and final part of this series will guide you toward a complete immersion in the Analog Life. It’s no longer just about reducing the role of digital technology, but about reinventing your relationship with time, objects, and experiences.
