Corner Sofa or L-Shaped Sofa: Which One Should You Choose? - Kipli

Corner sofa or L-shaped sofa—which one should you choose?

A corner sofa creates a nook—a place to relax. It defines the living room without necessarily taking over the space. A sectional sofa, on the other hand, creates a distinct area—one that’s more spacious and inviting, almost like a room within a room. The right choice depends less on style than on the actual space available and how you entertain guests.

The corner sofa is often the best place to start. It fits well in a medium-sized room, can be placed along a wall, and makes it easier to move around the coffee table. It’s also a good choice if you want to keep things flexible, for example with a movable ottoman like the one shown in PALM, or a modular setup like the one on LENO . The corner setup can then adapt as you move or change your layout.

The panoramic layout really comes into its own if you have a large wall or an open-concept living room, and if you see the sofa as a central gathering spot—for family, for guests, or just to stretch out. It’s particularly well-suited when you prefer to position the sofa facing the room rather than against a wall, and when you want to maximize seating without adding armchairs.

One last, very practical point to consider before making a decision. The larger the sofa, the more you need to plan for access—stairs, hallways, elevators, and doors. With modular models, this challenge is often easier to manage because the pieces are separate.
